| Match Reports 7 March 2010 Brickfield Rangers 1 - 1 Buckley Town A cold start to the morning and with the frost lifting, the pitch was very heavy. The game started off well, with some good passing and movement from both teams. The condition of the pitch took it's toll early on with injuries to a number of the Buckley team, Kerry injuring her ankle and a likely ham string stain for Alex (which saw Alex sidelined for most of the game). Brickfields broke the deadlock with a well worked goal in the first half and after an incident off the pitch, the half time interval came slightly earlier than normal. 1 - 0 to Brickfield at half time. The second half got underway and with Kerry moving out to right mid, the game was opened up more. Kerry had the run of the wing and caused countless threats whenever she was in possession of the ball. With our midfield starting to battle more than in the first half we started to feed the ball through to Louise and Chloe more, but with some good defensive coverage from Brickfields their jobs were not made easy. An in form Aliza and Lauren battled everywhere on the pitch and kept the pressure on the Brickfields players whenever they were in possession. And then came the best piece of play from Buckley.........a long ball from Nic out to the right and with Kerry chasing and somehow managing to keep the ball in play with an astonishing cross........the ball passed the face of the goal and arrived at Chloe's feet at the far post. With an excellent first touch, Choe slotted the ball past the Brickfield keeper. Another late injury saw the end of the game for Aliza with another ankle problem. Final score 1 - 1. Well done girls, a good effort from all in difficult conditions. Another tough week for my player of the match, but after a lot of thought I had to award it to the two players who battled the most on the pitch. I couldn't decide between the two, so I will award to both Lauren and Aliza. 28 February 2010 Buckley Town 1 - 0 Penycae Finally, the weather allowed the game postponed from January to played (although due to pitch closures the venue was the astro turf). The game got underway with a strong Penycae applying most of the pressure, but with an in form back three and an outstanding performance from Jodie (in goal) there was no way through for Penycae. Our midfield tracked back well to support and the combined efforts of all of the players denied Penycae every time. It took a while for our players to settle in and apply some pressure on the Penycae defence, which mainly came on the counter. The delivery from midfield was excellent, the ball was fed through beautifully to Kelly, Louise and Chloe at every opportunity. Penycae didn't give us long on the ball and closed us down quickly whenever we broke through. Chances were few and far between in the first half, with the best chance falling to Alex..............after a great run.............one on one with the keeper............denied by an excellent save. 0 - 0 half time. The second half got underway and Penycae had changed their approach..........a number of long range attempts on goal, mostly off target. A different approach from the Buckley players and with more determination than in the first half, more pressure was applied on the Penycae team. The passing was sharp and with Alex, Aliza and Geena starting to dominate midfield it was only a matter of time before we would sneak past the Penycae back line. Louise kept the Penycae defence on their toes and caused countless problems for them with her best ever performance. With about 15 minutes remaining and with the game so close, I couldn't see anyone breaking the deadlock.............until a surging solo run down the right wing by Alex................the ball was in the corner.........the ball was blasted at goal and with a slight deflection from one of the Penycae players it was in. 1 - 0 the full time score. Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!! An unbelievable team effort. Well done to Gemma.......the POM This week was a difficult one for me, with regards to choosing my POM. Everyone gave a POM performance and we wouldn't of won without each and everyone's efforts. For me, the efforts of the youngest player on the pitch should be rewarded.......playing against players two years older and still not giving up........juggling with the ball in the game..........putting in her best ever performance.........the choice was obvious.............WELL DONE LOUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 29 November 2009 Buckley Town JFC 3 - 1 Park Youth First things first - Thanks to Mike and the Park Youth team for agreeing to play the game on the Astro Turf. Not a good day for football, with the game needing to be played on the astro pitch due to all of the grass pitches being waterlogged. The game started with Park Youth winning the toss and deciding on taking the kick off. Park started well and pressed from the start, but with probably the best defensive performance that I have seen this season the threat didn't last long. Once we settled into the play, this soon switched and we started to apply the pressure ourselves. The midfield passing was quick and to feet and the movement on an off the ball was fantastic (aspects are training are becoming more apparent in the play). The passing and movement paid off in the 10th minute when a ball was threaded through to Alex who cut inside from the right wing and with great composure slotted the ball past the keeper. The midfield domination continued and after 12 minutes Alex was through again...........one on one with the keeper.............no denying her...............goal number 2. Another 5 minutes of play the ball ends up at the edge of the area at Aliza's feet after some amazing one touch passing and a superb back heal from Kerry...........with the area full of bodies (still don't quite know how she managed it) Aliza slotted the ball through into the bottom right corner, with Amy waiting at the post to make sure that it would count. With things starting to get a little heated in a very physical game, Alex was denied the opportunity of her third by what could be seen as a controversial decision (sorry Alex) of a Park Youth free kick. 3 - 0 the half time score. The second half got underway and Park changed their play...........playing the long ball to their pacey young player in the number 12 shirt. It wasn't long before Park sneaked through for a well taken shot and what would end up as a consolation goal. Final score Buckley 3, Park Youth 1. Well done girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back to winning ways and thoroughly deserved through strength skill and determination. Best defensive performance so far this season. Midfield looked sharp and tracked back every time. Link up play between midfield and the lone striker Kerry was amazing. Well done Kerry for being awarded player of the match by the Park Youth players..........you thoroughly deserved it. Tough call this week for my player of the match. With a player of the match performance by all it could have gone to anyone, however there were two players that seemed to put in that extra percent (151% rather than the 150%).......................Lauren and Aliza. Both players battled in the centre of midfield and on numerous occasions were back in their own area getting a tackle in. I said to you all after the defeat in the last that it would make you stronger and sure enough it has. Thank you ALL for a very enjoyable Sunday morning of football. I would also like to give a special thank you to Alex's dad, Louise's dad and Kerry's dad for the help on Sunday 15 November 2009 Marford & Gresford 4 - 1 Buckley Town JFC This was always going to be a difficult tie, against a team I know to be of a high standard. With a number of players un-available this weekend we turned up only having one sub and with playing 9 a-side on a full pitch this wasn't going to help the cause. The game started well and both teams were playing some lovely passing football. The passing paid off early on, when a fantastic threaded through ball from Kerry found Alex in front of goal and with a player of her ability there was no doubt of the ball ending up in the back of the net (1-0 to Buckley). For the remainder of the first half both teams had their chances, but excellent defending from both team broke down the attack every time, until with two minutes remaining.............Marford were through and with a powered shot they were level. The second half started well with Mafrord changing their approach and taking pot shots from distance, mostly off target. With an outstanding performance from Jodie (in goal) we were still in the game until 20 minutes into the second half.......with our players starting to tire, Marford took advantage and scored their second. Marford continued to apply pressure and managed to add to their tally with two more goals in the last 10 minutes. Overall an outstanding performance from all of the Buckley players in difficult conditions. Jodie - Stopped almost everything Marford could throw at her and kept us in the game. Defence - Rock solid and worked well as a unit. Midfield - Worked well and held their shape. Alex coped well, on the right (even with 2 or 3 players marking her). Forwards - Chloe and Kerry switching positions worked well (communication between the two was good). Dark horse of the game was Nic........dropped into the game on the left wing and proved her ability, making some good surging runs up the pitch and tracking back when needed. WELL DONE GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The score line doesn't reflect the game or your efforts. Buckley Town JFC 5 - 0 Corwen Youth FC The season finally started with a visit from Corwen Youth U15 girls, with a slightly later than usual kick off time of midday. A new look to the team this season, with the return of Nic, Lauren and Soph and with the league debut of a very talented young player Kerry. Our girls applied the pressure straight from the whistle and peppered the goal constantly. For the first 14 minutes, an outstanding performance from the Corwen keeper blocking every attempt on goal. The keeper showed fantastic shot stopping skills with the higher shots, so it appeared the only way through would be to keep them low. We finally broke the deadlock on the 14th minute with a perfectly placed shot in the bottom corner from Yasmin. Another 15 minutes went by, where we saw shot after shot blocked by the keeper until the 31st minute when another low shot found the back of the net courtesy of Chloe. The pressure continued for the remainder of the first half and with our keeper Jodie not getting a touch of the ball due to an outstanding performance from our defence, the score remained at 2 - 0. The second half got underway with Corwen changing their game and starting to attack more and catching out on occasion with their pace. 10 minutes in and some good passing play the ball arrived at Kerry's feet, with her eye on the goal there was no way she would be denied and with a lovely finish the ball was in the back of the net again. From this point on the supply from both wings and from the centre of midfield were delivered with pin point accuracy, but our attempts were blocked every time when Corwen players put themselves between the ball and the goal until the 50th minute........................the ball fell to Kerry again, this time with her back to goal. Kerry struck the ball on the turn and instinctively knew where to place it. For the remainder of the game all of our further attempts were thwarted by a very determined Corwen and their goalkeeper, blocking shots from most of our players. The 65th minute saw some amazing skill and strength from Aliza...............a surging run up the centre of the pitch starting from her own half, skinning anyone who got in her way.............and then un-selfishly directly in front of goal laying the ball off to Jasmine who slotted it past the keeper........PURE GENIUS! In the dying minutes a break down the right by Alex nearly made it six, as she cut inside to release a shot...............it was like a game of pinball................hitting the keeper the post and a few defenders before it was scrambled clear by Corwen. This was an excellent TEAM performance and played on the whole as a passing game. Remember girls...........the play to create a chance is as important, if not more important that the goals themselves. Player of the Match this week was awarded to two players:
Alex was awarded POM for her hard work and ball skills on the right wing by the Corwen players. Kerry was awarded POM for her skill on and off the ball by the Corwen Manager
